Bollywood’s blockbuster hit ‘Dabaang’ is completely remade in Tamil by Darani to meet all the expectations of Tamil audience.

Osthi Velan is an inspector with an honest heart who follows controversial practices to succeed as a police officer. He seizes about twenty five lakhs that enter his jurisdiction for the purpose of purchasing votes during elections. He splits the seized money with his fellow police men and takes home the balance.

Baskar Daniel is the politician who loses the entire twenty five lakhs. He plots to get back his money, avenge Osthi Velan and win the election all at the same time. The story goes on to reveal how Osthi Velan counter attacks Baskar’s moves and defeats Baskar at the end.

Osthi storyline takes off immediately after the end of title card. The movie gives prominence to fun filled romance and emotional sentiments equally and the movie is a very fast paced movie.

Silambarasan is Osthi Velan and this is his first movie as a police officer. We can expect him to continue playing such roles in the future. Silambarasan perfectly fits the character profile of a police officer.

Richa who won us all with her performance in ‘Mayakkam Enna’ shows the beautiful side of her in this movie.

Revathi is Osthi Velan’s mother and she is torn between her husband and son due to their personalities. Revathi promptly passes on her emotions to the audience because many mothers of her age can easily relate to her character. Vijay Kumar is Osthi Velan’s father and Jithan Ramesh is the hero’s innocent brother.

Sonu Sooth is Basker Daniel and he really scares the audience with his powerful performance.

There are several comedians in the movie like Thambi Ramaiya, Mayil Samy and Vaiyaburi, but it is Santhanam’s dialogues that receive huge amount of applauses from the audience.

The story takes place in Nellai and Darani has made sure that it is pronounced all through the movie through subtle things. However, just like any mass masala movie, you shouldn’t expect logic in several sequences as police commissioner speaks Nellai Tamil and inspector teases collector. If you are ready to put your logical brain to sleep so as to enjoy a blockbuster, we can be sure that you will be entertained thoroughly for the entire two hours.

Behind The Screen - Osthi
Darani has completed the entire movie in a single shooting schedule. Most of the shots are shot in and around Bengalooru. At the end of the movie, Silambarasan flaunts his ‘Six pack abs’ in a fight sequence. This sequence wasn’t originally planned by the director or actor.

However, rumors about Silambarasan with six packs were doing rounds and the scene was included so that Silambarasan’s fans aren’t disappointed. Silambarasan followed a very strict workout regimen amidst shooting to develop real six pack abs.
