Story of Mayakkam Enna
Karthick loses his parents and lives with the support of his friends. He wants to become a wildlife photographer. He is ambitious, but everywhere he goes ringing bells for opportunities, he is faced with rejection and dejection.
Karthick values friendship more than anything else and his intentions are put to severe testing by Yamini who is the girl of Karthick’s friend Sundhar. Yaamini falls in love with Karthick and Karthick struggles to keep her away. At one point of time, the revelation about their relationship comes in full force among friends. Sundhar becomes agitated. Sundhar’s father Ramesh consoles his son and takes efforts to get Karthick and Yaamini married. This is until the interval.
 After the interval, we can clearly understand that it is a Selva Ragavan movie. A new light is shone on the entire storyline only after the interval.
Karthick begins to doubt his skills. At the same time, he realizes that he is deceived by a popular wildlife photographer, Madesh. Madesh steals Karthick’s work and he wins international acclamation. Karthick is fed up with his life and attempts suicide on his honeymoon with his lover wife Yaamini. However, he is saved. Karthick becomes an alcohol addict and in his struggle with alcohol abuse, he loses his mind.
Yaamini steps up for her husband and fights his addiction. The movie is about how Yaamini helps to rescue her husband and make him a success. This movie is another movie that emphasizes that there is a woman behind every man. However, this movie features some scenes that are powerful and disguting at the same time in trying to show off the sacrifices a hopeful woman has to make to live with a mentally disturbed husband.
Dhanush portrays his role of a dream filled and enthusiastic photographer beautifully. Richa Gangopadhyaaya on the other hand is brilliant in her raged avatar. Dhaush gets applauses for the scene in which he acts like a dog to get a chance with Madesh. The audience is kept silent by the terrifying rage of Richa Gangopadhyaaya who vents out her anger and frustration when her dream of becoming a mother is destroyed in a matter of minutes.
Richa has shouldered a very powerful character and she has done it effortlessly. She is definitely a talented actress who knows how to act.
The twists in the movie or the end are not important here. The storyline is very predictive and audience know what will happen next. However, Selva Ragavan has created his signature in laying out the path in which the predictive scenes unfold.
This movie is the life of a photographer and hence, the entire movie is beautiful and photographic. ‘Kaadhal en kaadhal’ song comes after the announcement that it is a tribal dance, which is clearly a misfit. The movie shows that wildlife photography appears as frontcover of Kumudham magazine. This is something that never happens in the magazine industry. We will be happy if something like that can actually happen.

Mayakkam Enna is the first movie in which Dhanush experiments as a lyricist. This is the first Tamil movie for Richa as well.
