Thambi Vettothi Sundaram

The story about thugs is not new to Tamil cinema. In almost all these movies, the protagonist is actually a good human being who becomes a thug due to the forcible circumstances. These movies are also based on real life incidents. However, it is rare to find a movie that is lively, reflecting reality. Thambi Vettothi Sundram is such a rare movie. Sundharam gets numerous chances to become a liquor smuggler, but he dodges every opportunity.

However, he willingly takes it up as his career due to a circumstance. He falls in love with Loordh Mary, but she is the daughter of a popular liquor seller Siluvai. Siluvai is looking forward to take revenge on Sundharam. It is not due to the reason that Sundharam wants to marry Loordh Mary.

The suspense is behind the fact that causes rivalry between Siluvai and Sundharam. Hatred is a major play in everyone’s life and it acts in its own way. Hatred is the only reason that people take revenge and deceive those who trust them. People who enjoy hatred assume that they are victorious. They never realize that they will also be deceived by hatred itself later. Even if they realize, at that point of time, hatred consumes the person as a whole.

Karan struggles to become a well known actor in the industry and this movie can certainly make him one of the recognized faces. After Kattradhu Tamil and Angadi Theru, Anjali has loads of opportunities to expose her acting skills in this movie. Ganja Karuppu is the friend of the protagonist and he speaks Kumari Tamil dialect with lots of influence from Madurai Tamil dialect. Apart from that, other actors like Shamuga Sundaram, Kaadhal Thandapaani, and Saravan play important roles in the movie and they have all performed really well.

Pa. Ragavan is a writer and he has written dialogues for this movie. It is a very respectable entry into Tamil cinema for him. He has played subtly with dialogues and none of it sticks out of the story with the name of the writer all over the dialogue.

A song that starts with Kolaikaara is actually written for lovers, but it seems to be a bit on the violent side and it certainly makes us furrow our brows and laugh about it. However, Vaira Muthu has saved the song with his comparisons to Sangu and Meen. Vidhya Sagar correctly understood the movie and his music goes well with the movie which features all love in the first part and all hatred in the second part.

Anjaneyalu has ensured that the film’s lightning and scenes are close to reality. Like a documentary, the director talks in the beginning explaining the story line to us and strangely, it doesn’t feel odd in a commercial movie.

Ganja Karuppu’s ‘Munnukku Po’ comedy is certainly very good and to be seen in every comedy channel soon. When Saravan’s incapability is known, his action simply stuns us. This movie severely criticizes the current position of employment where the youngsters with a degree can't hope to get a government job. This part of the movie gets applause from us. This movie is very satisfying for viewers as it entertains us and keeps us thinking about the society at the same time.
