Marina review
Saturday, 04 February 2012

Pandi Raj showed us the relationship between parents and kids and how kids influence happiness in a household through his movie ‘Pasanga’. The director’s recent project is ‘Marina’.

‘Marina’ is about the life of kids making their living, selling the infamous Sundal in the Marina beach that is frequented by thousands every day. Pandi Raj has put his best foot forward once again as he has painstakingly defined the characters of Marina like lovers, beggars, and mentally ill people.

Siva Karthikeyan is a debutante in this movie and he will definitely score points as a realistic central character. Oviya is his pair in the movie and this movie offers a good chance for the actress to display her acting talents.

The kids trying to make ends meet selling Sundal in Marina always deal with pain in life day in and day out. Those kids tackle their life with their own sense of humor and fill everyday with hope. Such a life is lived by the kids in the movie. These kids have to deal with hurt feelings and they can immediately forget about their hurt in the next minute, which keeps them going through life.

The movie is filled with depression as we see characters like a father who makes his girl child dance to make money for food and an elderly person who lives as a beggar after he leaves his family due to his anger. Another part of the movie is absolutely thrilling as the police officer starts an interesting hunt to find the kid who threw stones at his own son.

Every kid of Marina has a dream of his own. However, the director has strongly included a message in the movie as he emphasizes the importance of education and sends the kids to school, where they truly belong. It was a very expected end, but everyone expected the end to be just like that. However, when the elderly person decides to quit begging, his character could have been designed to live. It was unnecessary to portray his death which sits heavy in our heart. Death is certain, but a change of mind is something hopeful and movies like these are meant to induce hope.
