Times have changed a lot now-a-days. Fortunetellers' own way of speech that includes all of the planets around us such as, Saturn, Moon, Uranus, Venus and other jargons that cant be understood by most people is on the waning side these days even in the rural areas. These guys at times even go the extent of predicting your death. In early days an RIMP doctor used to come around the village in his bicycle. His state was so pathetic that had he got a chance he would have cried aloud to sell his medication to the people of the village as if selling groceries or any other roadside stuff. Instead he used it cycle bell to alert that he was near the homes of the needy patients. At time people that were healed by his treatments rejoiced his arrival too. However, now even the villagers have advanced to the stage of using the 108 ambulance.
Ironically some of the Fortunetellers are wise enough to subdue the movie world of Kodambakkam with blasphemes of every kind and make the clients go mad. Interestingly, every one of the company has its own fortuneteller and utilizes their services in every stage of the movie. It starts from the date fixing of the first pooja till the fixing of a date for the release of the movie. The usual statement of the fortuneteller would begin with the positives signs, such as 'Thengai Poo' (coconut). Upon the nod from these fortunetellers, producers commence the work. However, within four days of release even most prosperous producers become poppers and this has become a routine in the Tamil movie world. Literally there was none to question these guys as every one of them in the cine field was superstitious. It was during the heights of their drama one actress was bold enough to question them with guts. It was none other than Nayanthara.
Wondering what happened and when?
It was during the shooting of the film 'Manmadahan'. The Nayanthara was in love fever (even now she has it but with somebody else). She was with such affinity toward Simbhu that it reflected in all her activities. In fact, life seemed to be the sweetest to her during those days. On his par Simbhu too had been blabbering around about the love he had for Nayanthara. It was considered among the media that they were made for each other.
It was at the peak of their love a fortuneteller was brought to fore tell about their future to Nayanthara by her friends. With sacred ash all over his face and body along with giant sized udrakasha garland, the fortuneteller looked as if he were a demigod. The costume of the fortuneteller was really mind blowing and he looked as if a temple on the move. Tamil version of the article has a better description of his costume.
Those that brought him to Nayanthara firmly believed in his foretelling abilities. They said that whatever he speaks is likely to happen. Once they lead him to her room and left the place stating that he would reveal many a personal matter to her. Nayanthara saluted the fortuneteller however, she avoided touching his feet, and probably she thought she could do it at a latter stage.
When she asked if he would like to have something, the fortuneteller asked for a Coke. As soon as he was served Coke, he poured it in his coconut shell and enjoyed its taste, while Nayanthara was still watching him with amazement. She even questioned him, "is it not wrong to have Coke and that too in the coconut shell while you lead an ascetic life?" By then the fortuneteller understood that Nayanthara was no ordinary lady that would nod to whatever he said. However, he said that he would ask three questions for which he said he expected honest replies. In his first question he asked which flower she liked the most.
Her instant reply to the question was 'Rose'. Immediately the guy closed his eyes and uttered few mantras and got back to her with an answer that she never expected from him. He said, "You have pick the wrong choice and your journey does not end well." It was very shocking to the actress as if the climax of a movie had happened in the first reel of the film.
With great effort she controlled her anger and concealed it with a smile and asked him how he predicted this. The fortuneteller put forth yet another question asking her about the direction of her house. Probably he thought that she would be interested in hearing more about what her future was. However, the angered actress this time wanted to confuse the fortuneteller and replied, 'North Gate, South Entrance'.
The fortuneteller was foolish enough to believe what she said even without analyzing the simple logics behind her shrewd reply. However, he again closed his eyes and uttered a few words, and when he opened them again, he said it is for sure that you are impregnated by the guy you love. Upon hearing this sort of nonsense from the fortuneteller the actress now turned red with anger. However, she had to control her anger for the sake of her friends that brought him to her. She simply answered no however; she determined that for the next answer he should flee out of the room.
Ignorant of her anger and intensions the poor fortuneteller dared to ask yet another foolish question. He also added that if she answered the question honestly the next stage would be to put 'Prasanam' (a ceremony in soothsaying). After sorting blessings from the ceiling fan that hung above his head he put forth the final question. It was about the color of the bulb she had in her bedroom. Angry Nayanthara disposed the question and asked him to go ahead with the Prasanam and tell her what would happen. But the fortuneteller was staunch and would not go ahead with out getting an answer for his final question.
The actress thought that if he were present for a few more minutes in the room he would certainly ask every detail from the color of her petticoat to that of her bed sheet. She also feared that he might put an end to her love. Although she tried to avoid the question as much as possible, the fortuneteller was stubborn and would not budge. Now she had no other way but to reveal her real mood. She instantly gave a reply and upon hearing the answer the fortuneteller literally had to flee the room. One of her friends asked him why he was fleeing and he said the exact reply he got from the actress. We were able to get the news from on them.
