Seeman, actor, director and chief organizer of ‘Naam Thamilar Party’ has officially released a statement emphasizing that Mullai Periyaru problem is not an issue about dam, but an issue about Tamilians’ rights. Below is his detailed statement:
“Kerala government and political parties of Kerala repeatedly say that Mullai Periyaru dam is very weak now. This has led to rivalry between the people of both states. Now, they have released a movie titled as ‘Tom 999’ which features this controversial issue. I see that this movie is purposefully released to create a permanent rivalry between Tamilians and Malayalis.
The central water resource expert team appointed by the Supreme Court of India has given a report stating that Mullai Periyaru dam is still going strong. Based on the report, in 2005, the Supreme Court issued an order asking the Kerala government to increase the dam capacity from 136 feet to 142 feet to start with and then gradually increase the capacity to the maximum holding capacity of 152 feet.
However, Kerala government refused to comply with the orders of the Supreme Court and made amendments to its irrigation law. This is officially condemnation of the Supreme Court order. Tamil Nadu government appealed against this decision of Kerala government and the Supreme Court bench once again ordered a professional team to perform in-depth analysis of the dam. Following the orders, judge Anandh formed an expert team including three more judges to investigate Mullai Periyaru dam. During this investigation, the Kerala government couldn’t submit even one technical proof stating that the dam is weak. Kerala government is unable to prove its stand even with technical and engineering support. During the case hearing, the government stated that there is no problem with the dam, but the issue is with the water capacity. This is the actual state of the Kerala government in this issue.
Now that the Kerala government has realized that it can't prove that the dam is weak, it has started to follow cheap tactics and as a result, a new movie is directed featuring the dam as weak which can fall apart. During the period of Achudhanandam, a similar movie was taken and the CD was screened in theaters which agitated Malayalis. Now, the government has joined hands with a Malayali who worked with the Navy to create a movie based on this issue. The government which is not able to prove its stand technically is releasing a movie stating its stand and it can be nothing more than a sick joke.
The Kerala government and the politicians of Kerala have to realize one important point. For Tamilians, Mullai Periyaru is not an issue about the dam. Rather, it is an issue about our rights. The dam was built by an English man Benny Quick in order to benefit Tamil Nadu and Tamilians. No Tamilian will agree to destroy the dam. The Kerala government has already occupied Tamil Nadu properties like Palakkadu, Devi Kulam, Peermedu and even the temple of Karpukarasi Kannagi. However, Tamilians are turning deaf ears towards this unauthorized rule mainly because we don't want to have any problem with our neighboring states. If the Kerala government decides to exploit the patience of the people of Tamil Nadu, they have to realize that it will lead to major issues like redefining state borders. Naam Tamilar Party wants to emphasize on the fact that no one can exploit the patience of Tamil people because if we agitate, then it will create problems for our neighboring states and politicians.
Naam Tamilar Party is sincerely against this movie and if it is screened in any theater in Tamil Nadu, the members of the party will protest and occupy the theaters in a democratic way”.
