Cinema is a wonderful and mesmerizing combination of Literature, music, architecture, drawing and costume designing. The industry has grown well of late, by utilizing the modern scientific inventions and technological advancements which reached it’s peak in the 20th century. But, does the industry make full utilization of skilled and innovative people and artists of traditional and modern day arts?
Years back, when Cinema came to the fore as a new form of art many eminent painters and musicians have rendered their part to the industry. In abroad, eminent artists Louis Bnewell and Salvador Dolly have joined together in servicing the new form of art, cinema. Even here, great musicians like Papanasam Sivan and noted writer Kalki have directly took part in cinema. Traditional musicians have added lot of pride and name to the cinema industry in the past. Then, there was a long gap in their contribution to Tamil cinema.
Fortunately that was not a full stop, it was just a gap alone. Now, there is a resurgence in the Tamil film industry .Modern day painter, troshky Marudu has played an important role in the creation of ‘Nandalala’ film. His paintings formed an important scene in the ‘Magizchi’ film. He has also acted in Peranmai film in a vital role.
Another modern painter by name Veera Santhanam is well known for his performance in Balu mahendra’s Sandhyaragam film. Even, he has started acting now in films like ‘Aval peyar Tamizharasi’ , ‘Magizchi’ .
Even, theatre artists are engaging themselves in Tamil cinema now, which was not the case before. Tamil University Drama, play Department head Professor Mu.Ramasamy is consistently acting in Cinema now. Another vetran, Jeyarao who runs a play troupe by name ‘Theaterlop’ has acted in the film ‘Aval peyar Tamizharasi’ . He has also given acting training to people for the film ‘Karungkali’. Shanmugaraja who debuted as Peykkaman in the film ‘Virumandi’ has also given acting training to people for the film ‘ Krishnaveni Panchalai.
On the other side, noted literature writers like Jeyamohan, Charu Nivedhitha, S.Ramakrishnan, Baskar Shakthi, Su. Venkatesan have thrown their hesitance and started actively writing for cinema. Famous novel writer, Prabanjan will be writing Story, dialogues for Myskkin’s next film. Eminent People like Nanjilnadan, Magudeshwaran have started to write lyrics for films.
So, Tamil cinema has changed a lot now. By joining hands with eminent and successful people in Play, Drama, Painting and literature Tamil cinema has rediscovered and energized itself. This has to continue in the coming years. Tamil cinema has to attain world standards soon. The average cinema fan cannot hope and expect anything more than that. This will give him maximum joy and satisfaction. Hope, people concerned will be aware of this
