Illayaraja has recently become ambassador for Manapuram gold company’s gold ornaments savings scheme. Participating in a function arranged by the company, Illayaraja has elaborated that how gold helps in the lives of poor in various circumstances. He recalled the incidents related to that in his life as an example.
When he recalled how his sister helped him in his upliftment, we would feel touched by that. The way he reached from a position of nowhere to his present heights and the obstacles he has to cross would increase our respect and admiration for him.
Unexpectedly, he condemned the present educational system a lot. He felt bad that the welfare schemes of the government are not reaching the people. He also condemned the way tress are being cut and destroyed in the country.
He mentioned about himself that he is living all these years with the money he earned by composing music for films. He also stated that he hasn’t invested his money in any investment options so far. He cursed people who always listen to songs downloaded from internet and these people would realize their mistakes only if they meet any natural disaster.
Though his words were full of anger and frustration there was some meaning attached to it. We cannot ignore the justice reflected in his words. How will a music director bear if the songs born out of his talents are used by any one as per their wish after the film’s release ?
Producers at any cost want their film to achieve victory and bag huge collection. For that they want the songs to create a wave with people before the release of film. They are giving the songs to telecast and broadcast in TV Channels and FM Radio. Producers hardly bother about the songs once the film is released. With proper agreements they can earn revenue from songs too thru distribution by demonstrating their musical rights.
Kamal hassan has stated some time back that films has to be released along with the DVD’S of respective films. By doing this the pirated DVD sale can be stopped completely. Hollywood cinema is following this method.
It is not mandatory that the money invested in film production can be collected from box offices of theaters. By planning well and distributing the DVD rights, music release rights, TV rights in an organized manner ,film industry can make more profits.
Producers have to keep in mind about Kamal hassan’s ideas and Illayaraja’s outburst regarding that. Then and there they have to take new, innovative steps in a bold manner. If not, they have to spend their life time by waiting for the dates of heroes.
