‘Mr.Officer’, hope that story presses an alarm in your memories!

Yes.. Mr.Rajashekar, the censor board officer was caught up in affairs of bribery and corruption for a movie in tamil… Now you might be desperate to ask me.. if he was the only one found guilty and what about the rest??

That we do not know as of now and neither can we probe our noses into things that weren’t dug earlier.. All we can do is read ahead about the censor committee and its decisions in the issue of getting a movie done, and the ‘outlined resolution’ first ever known of its kind in the Tamil cinematic world.

The ‘committee’ for this board is mostly framed up of people related to politics, either the ruling or opposition. Rarely, a few well-known in the society, media related and more form a part of this committee as well. And as with other departments in the state, this is headed by an I.A.S too! How do things work with them?

Even before the director thinks about incorporating another scene.. his thought would run ahead to the decisions these guys would case up if something adverse is to happen.. first, an application is put forward to them and later, they decide upon a date where nearly four members from the committee would be there to watch and criticize your hard work and sweat and finally chuck off, and might want you to snick in a couple of ‘minor (not for the makers)’ changes here and there…

A theater only for them, a couple of snickers and the movie, and the rest have to walk their way out.. Be it the kings of an empire or the maker of thriller-killers or whatsoever, no one comes between the censor board and the movie for a complete time frame..

‘A’, ‘U’, or ‘U/A’ is entirely decided upon by the committee based on the scenes that go in the making of the film. Profanity, abusing the handicapped and a couple of other conditions should never be in the making… else the committee would chop and trim them off and finally leave you bizarre wondering what to stick up and where from?

But if you were to think twice.. not all movies are ‘neatly done’ these days.. hardly would you find one without violence, action, tears and all the bad moves to make it really a feast to the eyes! On par with such a thought, the earnestness of this committee is definitely questionable!

One such remarkable incident with this committee would be that of S.J. Surya and his movie, where the director-actor was instructed to remove a couple of scenes and his cellular went flying high in the air at one of the committee members!

‘Dhrogam nadanthathu enna, Idhu kaadhal varum paruvam, Andharangam’ are few worth mentioning, because despite their heinous scenes and posters all over, inflicting the little minds with venom, the censor seems to be quite ok with it…. It doesn’t happen in a movie, it happens elsewhere.. and what could be concluded??

The only solver would be.. people, the makers, buyers or whosoever is into the complete creation of a movie should be aware and curb such activities taking a hand over.. until such time more of Rajashekars would emerge and indulge in constructing a varsity for under-table dealings.. White collars with a black patch underneath!
